Switching From Conventional To Synthetic Oil

Switching From Conventional To Synthetic Oil

There are many benefits to switching from conventional to synthetic oil for your vehicle.

Click Here for a full breakdown on the differences between conventional and synthetic oil.

Switching a Newer Vehicle to Synthetic Oil

If you have a newer vehicle, it may have been delivered with synthetic oil.  Most manufacturers recommend synthetic oil for their vehicles. As with any oil, just make sure you use the correct weight and viscosity of oil, such as 5W-30, 0W-20, etc...  This information can easily be found in your cars owner's manual or a simple internet search.

Switching an Older Vehicle To Synthetic Oil

If your vehicle is approximately 10 years old or older and you have not been using synthetic oil, you can switch to synthetic oil and experience the benefits.

One great option is to use synthetic blend oil.  This is an oil that is a combination of conventional oil and synthetic oil.  They cost less than full synthetics and provide some of the benefits of synthetic oils.  Some mechanics recommend synthetic blend oils for older cars that have run on conventional oil in the past.

You can always use a full synthetic oil and reap all of the benefits of this oil.

Precaution of Switching a Vehicle To Synthetic Oil

Synthetic oils are much cleaner than conventional oils.  They also have the ability to cleanse older engines of built-up sludge and debris.  In some instances, this can lead to increase build-up on your oil filter of the old sludge and debris that your new oil has cleaned up.  For this reason, we recommend changing your oil after no more than 3,000 miles the first time you switch from conventional to synthetic oil. After this first change, you should be able to increase the mileage between changes since your new synthetic oil can run longer between changes.
